Hello and happy Monday! This last week like most has just flown by, I still can't believe we are in the 11th month of the year. It honestly feels like Glastonbury was only last month and that we got Bernard about two months ago. The little scamp is just over 10 months now and is still growing. He's gonna be a biggun! Reflecting on the last 6 months a lot has changed with regards to looking after a puppy, a surprise internal career move and focusing more on my blog. I am looking forward to see what the next six months brings but before that I wanted to put down some goals I want to achieve in life and work. List making for me is very therapeutic and helps take things off my mind so I can focus on one task at a time. I always have so much going on and if I miss something regardless if it's big or small, the guilt just kills me. So being inspired by the lovely Megan Ellaby's blog post about her winter goals, I decided to write my goals down for the winter months.
Just over six months ago my career took an unexpected turn for the better. After designing women's wear for nearly six years I moved onto girls wear. A move I didn’t think I would make but one I have fully embraced and now absolutely love! It has been so refreshing to work on fun, creative graphics and even learn about new areas such as licensing. This move has made me release that if you have tried your hardest at something and it’s not working out, then cut your losses and give something else a go. With this slight change, it has made me more excited about designing again and I want to push forward in this area. So for the next six months, I wanted to push myself designing different collections, maybe start working with a new customer and continue to learn new skills as this is what keeps me excited about fashion.
Something that everyone who lives in London struggles with is the lack of space. We have a lovely one bedroom flat with a garden big enough for Bernard to run around in. When we were flat hunting we said a garden was a top priority because we wanted a puppy, so space inside the flat was compromised on. Sharing a wardrobe can be hard at times as we both want enough room to hang our clothes up, but it’s getting to the point where we are literally just running out of space to hang anything and no amount of hooks on doors and walls will help us out. First world problems hey! The next six months we need to find a place with more space and start to look at new areas we could see ourselves living.
This goal is something I tell myself every year - buy some books I really want read and make time to read them. I’m not the best at making time but over this last month I have really got into a few books which have made me want to read more before bed. 'How to be a success overnight' has given me a new focus on my blog and for a fiction book I started reading The Snowman, this has got me gripped. So books will be top on my list for Christmas.
I love creating visual content for my blog. I am always searching across Pinterest, other blogs and gathering information about trends from my job to create content. But one area I struggle with is the writing aspect, it’s never been my strong point, even back in school I would struggle to put down on paper what is going on inside my head. I am always looking for ways to improve my blog and feel my writing is something I need to focus on. That’s why I only want to post twice a week, focusing on content that I feel is strong and proud to post.
As well as improving my writing skills I also want to travel more for blog pieces. I recently wrote a mini travel guide for Los Angeles, it was mostly focused on places we ate at because we are such foodies but it's one kind of travel post I love to read and write. I love living like a local when travelling then recommending places to visit friends and family, so why not do that direct for you guys! My last travel blog post took me ages to write but it’s one I feel proud having written. Plus I could have added so much more. I already have an idea for my next travel blog post!
Oh YouTube, I LOVE to watch vlogs and videos of other bloggers, in fact, I would happily choose to watch YouTube over telly sometimes. Vlogs are my favourite ones to watch, they are filmed so casually and natural. I really want to make the move to YouTube and conquer my fear of talking in front of the camera. I do think a more casual situation like vlogging would be easier than a full sit down video as it feels too stuffy and staged. Like I said I really need to get over my fear and just start filming!
My final goal is quite simply to enjoy my time London. I have always said London is not a forever place. It’s a city to enjoy now but it’s not somewhere I see myself living for the rest of my life. My heart will always be in Manchester. Saying that I still think there is so much I haven’t done in London, so over the next six months, I want to tick off some of my bucket list of places to visit in London.
Hope you enjoyed a bit of an insight into what I want to achieve in the next six months. I do encourage you to make a list of key areas you to improve on and see how it helps you grow.
