I thought I would discuss the gifting culture that has been introduced to Instagram and is now more transparent online. It’s been a heated topic since the ASA brought in the new rules and has left peoples audiences wondering how much is too much, with regards to gifting.

These guide lines were brought in to help audiences see how transparent bloggers and influencers are being. If you didn’t know, the rules now state if you are gifted a product knowingly from a PR agency or a brand you must state that it is #gifted. For a sponsored post that you have been paid a set amount you must put #ad and start your post with the word AD. These rules are a good thing and is shining a light on how much people are being gifted.

For the most part the people I follow have always been genuine about what brand deals they have. For example one blogger I follow always says in her youtube videos that she works with brands like & Other Stories on a gifting bases and its a long term contract where she will be gifted certain items each month to promote. This kind of honest, open dialogue is what you should have with your audience and from watching her vlogs for years she influenced me to do the same.

Knowing how many products are now being accepted by bloggers you can see that some peoples feeds are being heavily gifted. I have no problem with bloggers being sent things or paid for work, because I know how hard people work in this industry to get that sponsored job or work with a brand on a gifting bases. I just think as bloggers we need to be more selective on what we accept and to create a feed that is honest and full of items we genuinely love.

As for my content I hope you can see that when I work with a brand, I have taken into consideration if it’s the right for me or my content. I have in the past accepted sponsored content with brands that looking back now I shouldn’t have but I have learnt from my mistakes and now know my own style, I can make better decisions going forward. As for my feed and gifting you can count on me to only accept gifted items I love and feel really passionate about.

Let me know your thoughts on the new guide lines from ASA, and if you have seen a change in your feed while scrolling?
