THE SQUARE NECK CAMI TOP

TOPSHOP CAMI TOP, NORTHERN MAGPIE 1

Hello and welcome back to a full fashion post with three different looks, featuring the square neck cami top. I’ve felt inspired by a combination of 90’s TV shows & the sunshine from the past week! But first a little life update, we have officially moved back to Manchester this weekend. We are all moved into our new house up North, so you can expect some interesting backdrops of the Northern Quarter and other spots around Manchester. I feel like the city has changed so much since we left nearly four years ago, so I’m very excited to go explore the new places to eat, drink and shop in Manchester. This means this is my last outfit post from South London. I do have a few more looks to post from London as I’m still down for another two weeks working. But I have left Joe and Bernard building furniture and unboxing loads of stuff until I return in two weeks. Very, very excited to be back t’up north.

Anyway let’s get into this hefty post all about the square neckline. So I've been rewatching Sex and The City back to back and watching Friends having my tea. After all this telly watching I’ve felt the influence of 90’s fashion. Both Carrie’s and Rachel’s fashion sense in both series has really resonated and inspired a lot of girls for this coming season. I’ve already seen how much 90’s fashion has influenced bloggers like Lizzie Hadfield and Monkhi in their looks. With all that in mind I have put together three different looks featuring my favourite 90’s top, the square neck cami.

CAMI TOP NO.1

The weather has had such a positive affect on my mood so all these looks are styled for a summer’s day. Starting with this multicoloured spotty two-piece set. The rainbow trend has been huge, but it’s a trend I have admired from afar until I saw this rainbow polka dot print. This print is a subtle way of incorporating the rainbow trend into my looks, without it over powering my whole look. Another reason I picked out a set is because you have two great pieces you can wear together for one look and two pieces which you can pair with other items in my wardrobe. It is such a versatile outfit that is perfect for work in the day and drinks in the evening.

CAMI TOP NO. 2

My second look was created for a night out when I’m back in Manchester. I dig out my velvet heels from last season to pair with these linen summer trousers and this leopard print cami. Leopard is another big trend for this summer. I do love myself some leopard print every now and then. If the print is on the right item of clothing it can look amazing and I always love to style it against denim or like here with black trousers for the perfect night time look.

CAMI TOP NO.3

My final look is so Rachel with the vintage Levi’s and so 90’s with the thin cat eye sunglasses. This look is my favourite outfit, because of how effortless the styling is. Nothing beats jeans and a nice top for me, no matter how much I wear other looks. I will always gravitate to my denim collection for a fail-safe jeans styled outfit.

All these items apart from a few pieces I’ve had a while are from Topshop. I wasn’t sponsored by them, I just happen to love their square neck cami’s that much. Let me know if you have been inspired by 90’s fashion?

RECENT LOVES

Well it’s official, spring is here. This weekend I finally stopped wearing my big winter coat and exchanged it for my spring jackets. Plus I even had my toes out for the first time this year! The sunshine this weekend really cheered me up and made me excited for next couple of months. Anyway enough of the weather chat, let’s talk about some things I am loving right now. Starting with podcasts!

Podcasts

I’ve started to take the time on my commute home to relax and listen to a variety of different podcasts. My most listened to has to be Keeping it Candid with Sophie and Millie, for all their real and frank chats about everyday issues and blogging. Wobble is another great podcast empowering you to feel more body confident and just to be happy with yourself. For something a little different away from fashion or pop culture, I’ve been listening to Serial which was recommended by a friend. OMG, the first season had me hanging on the edge of my seat, keeping me hooked I ended up listening to about 4 episodes back to back, trying to figure out who actually committed the crime. The drama!!

Sex and The City

Going from a listener to a viewer, I have recently binge watched the first two seasons of Sex and The City for what seems like the millionth time. My Sex and The City box sets have always been my go to when I have nothing else to watch but just recently I’ve seen it’s had a real come back with bloggers who hadn’t watched it the first time round. I feel like the show is having a really inspirational moment on fashion, if you haven’t seen it already I would recommend watching, you will see how much the show has inspired current fashion. You might even invest in a baguette bag!

Snail Cream

This love is a bit of a random one but I am loving my new snail eye cream. Yes, you read that right, snail eye cream. I’m always intrigued by new lotion and potions that can help with the bags or wrinkles around my eyes. This was a lot cheaper than other eye creams I’ve bought in the past, so I wasn’t expecting the world from this cream. But it has certainly delivered on hydrating and reducing the puff tired eyes I get every morning. So it gets the thumbs up from me. I paid £11 because a friend brought it back from a trip to Korea, but it retails here at £30 on Amazon.

River Island

Ok so for a long time I’ve not shopped in River Island because their style didn’t quite fit with mine. For the last few seasons, I’ve popped in but never seen anything worth buying, until now... After watching a video by Emma Hill and loved her tortoise shell button bodysuit she had on, I headed straight to the website and purchased the bodysuit plus these dark denim jeans. I could have actually bought a few more pieces but I thought I best just try these out, so I get to know the fit again. But I already know I’ll be shopping in River Island for my holiday wardrobe.

Some other lovely pairs ...

Earrings

This was a trend I absolutely loved about 5/6 years. I would always accessorise with massive earrings for all my outfits. After a while, my tastes changed and I fell out of love with big, bold earrings, opting for smaller necklace pieces instead. But over the last couple of seasons, I’ve actually built up quite a collection of statement earrings. Most of the pieces have taken inspiration from art collections. I’m loving the Matisse cut out shape earrings that Mango have in. Plus anything that is mix matched as a pair, it just adds something unique to a look.

Polka dots

Finally, I’ve come to the reason I started this ‘what I’m loving’ post - this polka dot blouse and how much I am loving polka dot for spring summer. This season I’ve already seen more colourful and playful polka designs and can’t wait to show you guys how I’m styling them, starting with this silk blouse. You guys know how much I love a blouse and jeans, here I’ve gone for a tie front pair of jeans and tie back detail on the top.

I would love to know what you guys are loving at the moment and if like me you’ve tried new products and would recommend them!

This weekend I have done absolutely nothing and I’ve loved every single minute of it. Joe’s been away so it’s literally just been me and the little dog. I’ve got back into my gym routine and healthy eating which helps with the stress levels I’ve had over the past few weeks, worrying about moving, work and leaving London. Sometimes all you need is a weekend on your own to relax and focus on yourself to realise what you want.

As well as chilling out I decided to put my camera skills to some good use and be the subject and the photographer all in one shoot here and I feel like these images turned out pretty good if I do say so myself! These photos are some of the most relaxed images I’ve created in my home and in an outfit I feel the most comfortable in.

This little break has made me love creating content again that works for me and no one else. At the moment I’ve been getting caught up in my design work and not having enough time for my blog. This weekend has been great for taking the time to create fashion content in the way I love, using my big camera. Now I know there has been talk about the iPhone vs camera debate on Insta about which one will show up more of peoples feeds. I’ve actually done my research this past month and found out that yes, my iPhone photos perform better, but the images I love the most are the ones shot on my DSLR. When it comes to my Instagram I will always mix it up with my phone photos of my daily looks with my more editorial images.

Like most, I obsess about my feed and I spend hours organising the aesthetic of it before it’s even been posted. It’s my way of feeling organised, I have spoken about apps I use and being organised in another blog post here. After that, I love scrolling through my feed and consuming imagery, being inspired by what other people put up. I think it’s very easy to fall down the rabbit hole of consuming so much imagery and content that it becomes just too much. I’ve fallen victim of FOMO of other peoples experiences or clothes I wish I owned. The worst is hating on an app when your photos don’t perform as well as you wanted. I mean it is just an app and we really shouldn’t put that much pressure on ourselves. What I do agree with is the more time I spend engaging with people through social media, the more people engage with you which is fundamentally what social media is about. Talking about subjects you love with people that love them as much as you do!

Through social media as a whole, I have made connections with people that I never thought I would, from across the world. They also love fashion and creating beautiful imagery just like me. We have taken the time to message each other and as a result, have literally bonded over earrings. That’s the beauty of social media and that's why I will resume posting content I like, in whatever format that makes me happy, while engaging with others. This post has been a little bit of brain dump of what I'm feeling towards social media at the moment. I would love to know your thoughts on this subject.

March has been such a busy month for me with life changes and taking on more design work than I can handle at times. This isn’t me moaning, just realising how much you can get caught up with life and being unable to focus on the things you love. One decision that’s got me very excited is that me and Joe are moving back to Manchester in April! It has always been the plan to move back up north one day. So this last month has been planning the move and viewing various houses. We are very sad to be leaving London as this place feels like home to me now as much as the North does but we feel it’s the right time for a change. I’ll write more about the move in another post, and give you guys updates on moving cities and moving house.

Anyway enough of the life update, let’s get into the exciting part which is... its starting to feel like spring! I’ve been quite slow on the spring wardrobe update as I refuse to take off my knitwear for fear of being cold. Plus being up and down from the north I’ve needed those extra thick knits while being in Manchester.

All that being said I felt I wanted an update to my outerwear and accessories. So I have gone for a slick trench coat from Marks and Spencer’s. Trench coats were massive on the catwalks, and you can see how this trend has influenced the high street. I’m not normally one for a true trench, I decided on this all most flasher coat, with this concealed placket and one button fastening.

Some other lovely trench coats.

Some other lovely bags from Pauls Boutique.

With a clean simple look like this, I like to wear black accessories. Here I have my favourite ankle boots at the moment and this textured animal bag from Paul’s Boutique. This bag is the perfect spring piece, with just one zip opening and tonnes of room inside to fit all the extra stuff I just love to carry around with me. It has a stunning gunmetal chain and a leather strap detail breaking the chain up to make the bag more comfortable when wearing it across the body.

What’s even better about this Paul’s Boutique bag is you can win this exact bag by heading over to my Instagram and follow all the details on there on how to enter. If you aren’t too fussed about this bag I’ve left some other options below for you guys.

Do let me know what you think about the trench coat and bag below.
