This past month I have seen a lot of talk about body image and how our online presence can leave us feeling inadequate and in turn affects our happiness in the long term. I find it only natural for us to compare and most of the time it's done in a very innocent way and can even boost us to strive for more. Most days I find images that I see on Instagram inspiring, making me work harder and pushing myself to produce better images. But sometimes, the online world can make you feel less than perfect and this can affect even the most outgoing of people. I am in no way the most confident person, in fact I have struggled with a lack of self confidence for years stemming from when I wore braces and thick lens glasses.

I wanted to share with you guys how I've been feeling lately about my own body and show that even though people may look their most confident on Instagram, they have shitty days where nothing looks good and they feel terrible about themselves.

On the whole, I am a positive person with a positive outlook on life but I also have my off days where my self-confidence is lacking. I had one of those moments while trying on clothes in & Other Stories last week. I caught a glimpse of my legs in the mirror and didn't like what I saw. My body hang up has always been the tops of legs. I have never liked them and actually felt fine about my body until someone said to me 'Oh you have a pear-shaped body' and since then all I see are wide hips and chunky thighs when all I ever wish is to have slim and toned legs.

In a none creepy way, I always check out other girls legs and admire girls on Instagram who have slim toned pins. Instagram has made me more body-conscious, letting me get carried away with looking at people's 'perfect' feeds, body and life. It's so easy to get stuck into an Instagram comparison game and once that happens I have to put my phone down and remind myself it is just a selection of highlighted moments in someone's life.

We have to remember that we are more than our feeds and that Instagram is a filtered photo taken from our best angle. Happiness and acceptance of our bodies come from having a positive outlook on life and not letting the negative thoughts rule our head. The changing room thing was just a moment of lack of confidence in my body. When in fact if I had a little bit of fake tan and better lighting I would feel so much better about myself.

I hope this has helped anyone else feeling the pressure from the perfect Instagram feeds and to love your body no matter what shape or size!

P.S. our online presence is just 5% of what our daily lives actually are! Nobody actually looks that good 100% of the time.

Ok so if you haven't noticed already, the eighties have made a tasteful comeback. It's still all about the shoulder padding and the all important sleeve detail. I'm sure everyone has bought into this season, just so you know they aren't going anywhere, in fact I predict they will get bigger and so much more exaggerated... How delightful!

One store that always gets me on style, design and price is H&M. They never disappoint, in fact I would go as far to say I would be happy to shop there for the rest of my days. This would of course include all their home wear, who else is with me?!

Taking it back to the clothes, I recently purchased this delightful white shirt. This item is one of those pieces that the hanger does it no justice, it looks way better on! It is a little bit more low cut than I would normally buy into. I don't want to be popping out in public and I do feel more conscious with v neck tops. But as this has a lot of fabric and gathers/tucks it creates volume at the bust. The band at the waist acts like a belt, creating an hourglass look. Perfect for making you feel slimmer.

Here I teamed it with my favourite pair of raw edge jeans from Topshop. This is another one of my everyday looks, that you can wear to work or for drinks at the weekend. To finish the whole look off I have my beautiful oriental embroidered sandals from Primark, I love these so much and they make this whole look! Let me know your thoughts on this look and particularly the shirt.

THE EVERYDAY - PART 1

Outfit number 'I've lost count of how many times I've worn jeans'. It's no surprise that I love my denim, I wear them to work, in the house at weekends, going out or for brunch. I dress them up and dress them down and even double the denim! So to pay homage if you like to my love for jeans I am starting a new series of different ways I can wear denim. I am using pieces I already have and mixing them with new trend items going into trans and on to the next season. Denim is a massive part of most people's wardrobe so I want to bring you new ideas for the coming season and calling it The Everyday.

For each outfit I want to create looks with new pieces for your denim days whether you wear jeans everyday or you're looking for that cheeky Friday night out look. This series is about making your denim pieces work for you and trying out new trends that hopefully inspire you.

The first look is one that I would wear for work myself. I know for some people you have a clear work wardrobe so this could be your dress down Friday look. I've taken a likening for darker denim at moment and I'm actually on the hunt for some more indigo jeans for this series. But here I have a pair of my trusted Topshop jeans that have had a lot of love over the past year.. so much so, I got bored of wearing them with turned up hems and decided to customise them turning them into a refreshed pair of raw edge jeans. I would recommend doing this is to an old pair of jeans to give life into them again.

For this look I've gone for a sheer red workwear top from H&M. I'd seen a few bloggers on Instagram wear similar sheer tops on Instagram and I had it in my head I wanted one that would go with my jeans. Also I'm really drawn to primary colours and the red of this top got me in the shop! On its own hung up it looked quite grown up, but just by placing with the denim jeans it gives this top a softer feel, less of a corporate vibe. To compliment the burnt red colour of the top I've worn my ruffle suede mules and my leather shopper bag. I think for an everyday look this could be perfect for a date or drinks after work.
Let me know your thoughts and if you would like to see any other pieces styled up with jeans.

ONE-PIECE SWIMSUIT STYLED X3 WAYS

farfetch, one-piece swimsuit, jess dempsey, northern magpie, joey taylor

The one-piece swimsuit has fast become an essential piece for holidays, no longer reversed for your mum or grandma. It's a piece I've shied away from until now as I always thought they looked the best on tall girls and not on smaller girls like myself. But if you use a few tricks to make sure you buy the right one-piece swimsuit, you can make this swimwear work for you. For short girls it's all in the leg, take inspiration from Kylie Jenner and make sure your swimsuit is a high leg over the hips if you dare! Next is the colour or print, if you are conscious of your middle, try a bold print or play it safe and wear a black swimsuit. If you are feeling brave just go for a plain coloured piece and make it work with sandals and a large straw hat.

Being inspired by Farfetch Style Guide blog post with Jess Dempsey about how she makes swimsuits work for her I have put together three different looks that can work for anyone!

https://www.farfetch.com/uk/style-guide/collaborations/how-to-style-one-piece-swimsuits-with-jess-dempsey/

This look is effortless pool side glamour, no wedges in sight! Instead, a clean crisp white swimsuit with a high leg that will elongate your figure and on point tie details at the straps. For a touch of elegance, I've added in the simple gold necklace and then for contrast I would wear these seventies inspired sunglasses. To tie this look together as you hide from the sun and eat lunch you can wear this long light weight striped shirt.

This look above is pure beach inspired, for anyone heading off to Ibiza. Another high leg swimsuit, but this one is in a beautiful burnt orange/pink colour. A great piece for when you have a deep tan by the fourth day of your holiday. I've teamed this one-piece with a large straw hat, a soft pink beach bag to contrast the swimsuit and these white sturdy Marni sandals, just in case you fancy a day time rave!

The third and final look is a dusk to evening party look. Taking this one-piece swimsuit in a lovely navy colourway and teaming it with a pair of high-waisted stripe trousers. To give a contrast to this look I have placed these pink velvet heels and a simple black clutch to finish this whole look off. The dyed to match applique detail at the straps make it the perfect piece to dress up.

Which look do you prefer? and is the one-piece swimsuit made it into your wardrobe?
